Mex-a-licious

As many of you know, I recently returned from a mission trip to Mexico with CCH. 109 people went this year in 10 vans. I went as a driver/sponsor type person for the 2nd time and it was my 5th overall Mexico adventure with CCH. There were lots of interesting and new experiences on this trip, so over the next couple posts, I'll try to share as many as I can.

I'll begin at the beginning... the van.
It was my pleasure to have my good friend Andy as my co-driver this year. We made a pretty good team and kept each other awake when it was quiet in our van (which wasn't often). Our passengers initially included 10 girls and one guy. We lost one girl and the only guy to a less crowded van shortly after embarking. The remainder (nine girls) became BDAs (this will be explained later).

By some means by which I can not recall, our van was renamed "Big Daddy." Interestingly enough, that is the name of this blog. Consequently, Andy and I recieved the labels "Big Daddy 1" (Me) and "Big Daddy 2" (Andy). The girls, at some point in the trip, labeled themselves "Big Daddy's Angels" or BDAs (I told you I'd explain it).

The ride down wasn't all too eventful untill we turned on the radio. As we scanned the stations of central Texas, we came accross a program that, by all logical comprehension, I should detest. The John Tesh show. Yeah, seriously he has a radio show in which he plays music (actually a pretty good mix) and gives 'life tips' (not as good). A major bonding moment was when Fergalicious played and all the girls in the van began singing (with an emphasis on Courtney, who knew all the words). As the evening continued, they continued singing. This was amusing and entertaining for the drivers (who do not know all the words to Fergalicious).

In addition to the singing, we also had some good conversation and got to know the BDAs better on the second day of the trip.

[ In order to make this story more comprehendable I am now going to skip 4 entire days and pick up again on Friday as we leave to come back to the USA]

On the trip back, we had the same group in our van. One of the most enjoyable parts of the trip was the drive back. Andy and I were able to share with the girls about relationships and marriage and all the other boy questions that you would imagine emerging from a van full of young women. I won't go into any great detail, but we covered nearly every relationship-related question as well as other general Christian topics. It was a blessing to be able to share and get feedback from the girls. Thanks to all of you!

Post-trip info: It seems that the BDAs have also created a group on Facebook for BDAs. That will be an interesting site to visit. More Mexico adventure stories to come but that's all for now.

Praise God.

Good Morning Charlie.

Adam, Julie says thank you for finally posting something new. It is a good one and quite entertaining. And for the record, while I am very glad you had a great time, I am very happy you are home!

Thanks for a new post, now go check out my guitar videos and leave a fun, random, or otherwise witty comment or three. Cheers.

I still can't believe there is a song about me!!! How awesome!

Willhite gave me your site. Looks like you have been busy: fatherhood and the continuing traveler. Sounds like everything is going very well. You and your family have been in my prayers. I am glad to see pictures of the offspring.
